Transformative Landscapes: A Contemporary Perspective brings together the work of three contemporary fine art photographers who offer a fresh and innovative approach on our relationship with the environment. Summer Dreaming welcomes viewers to survey the ethereal undercurrents of summertime’s sun-soaked days and warm nights through a collection of expressions, mediums, and narratives by Bay Area visual artists.
Pastel Panache
Pastel Panache showcases the diverse creativity and expressive potential inherent in pastel mediums, encompassing soft pastels, chalk, hard pastels, oil pastels, and various dry and mixed media techniques. This exhibit highlights the tactile allure and vibrant color palette unique to pastels, blurring the boundaries between drawing and painting. Experience the economical yet richly textured world of pastels, where artists explore boundless avenues of artistic innovation.
Process
Process, curated by Karen M. Gutfreund, showcases artwork created meticulously by hand with alternative mediums by 22 Bay Area self-identified women, non-binary and BIPOC artists. Process is a testament to the skill, and passion of each artist—every mark carries the artist's emotions, thoughts, and energy, becoming a tangible representation of the artist's journey. This exhibition is a celebration of human creativity and craftspersonship and embodies the artist's dedication, uniqueness, and connection to their art. Pushing back against the patriarchal canons, for what can be considered “women’s work,” these timeless forms of expression inspire and captivate audiences, reminding us of the profound impact of the human touch.

Dos Décadas:
In Dos Décadas, Art Works Downtown presents an exhibition of imagery from Gallery Route One’s Latino Photography Project. The Project started as an idea to empower ESL students to use photography as a language-learning tool. In time, it evolved to become a collective of photography artists in their own right. Through their perspective we get a glimpse into the life of Latino immigrants in West Marin from 2003 until now. A historic visual archive of a community, produced by the hands of that community.
Beyond
What conscious experience might exist beyond our common reality? Art Works Downtown presents a visual art exhibit exploring, answering, and enjoying this question. Beyond showcases work by Bay Area artists, which take the viewer beyond their present state of mind or offer visions of realities beyond our day-to-day life.

Hope is Discipline
This exhibition presents the work of LGBTQ artists in the Bay Area who employ practices such as world building, alter-egos, performance, pleasure, humor, disco/music, and speculative fiction to imagine alternate spaces, realities, and possibilities, not only spark hope but also challenge prejudice in order to foster a sense of belonging. These practices, many of which have long histories in LGBT communities, present models of how the joy of culture can reconnect us to the world and remind us that anything is possible, if we are willing to fight for it.
Photographic Essence
Standing on the shoulders of great photographers such as Dorthea Lange and Ansel Adams, artists of today continue to transcend reality through the medium of black and white photography. Art Works Downtown’s exhibit—Photographic Essence—exposes a poetically dynamic experience by showcasing 25 artists working in this timeless medium. Viewers will surely discover new worlds, self-reflection, and fresh perspectives in the dance of texture, shape, subject, and light.

Art Works Downtown offers Harmonic Material, an exhibition of artworks utilizing various mediums to achieve visual, narrative, or compositional harmony; which is loosely defined as a pleasing effect or balance with a sense of movement.
