Transformative Landscapes: A Contemporary Perspective

September 27–November 9, 2024

Transformative Landscapes: A Contemporary Perspective" brings together the work of three contemporary fine art photographers who offer a fresh and innovative approach on our relationship with the environment.

Debra Achen, Adrienne Defendi, and Charlotta Hauksdóttir have created unique hand-manipulation techniques that transform their stunning images of the land into-one of-a-kind works that emphasize the deep connection between humanity and nature.

Departing from traditional Western landscape photography, which often idealizes nature as an untouched and static entity, these artists portray the land as a vibrant, living force intricately linked to our existence.

By utilizing methods such as layering, sewing, cutting, collaging, weaving, toning images with redwood bark tannin, and sculpting with photographs, they bring attention to the environmental challenges we face today. Their work not only raises awareness but also encourages viewers to engage actively in addressing these critical issues.
