CiCi Chao is an artist who incorporates traditional Chinese freehand black ink and brush technique and watercolor to create contemporary art in the old style. She uses brush and ink on xuan paper as a medium to depict nature and humans in harmony. Her style is simple, free, compact, and her subject matter often emerges from the people and environment of Marin County, California. In 1997, she became a private student of James Yeh-Jau Liu, the master Chinese watercolor artist (1910–2003).
