Dear Friends of Art Works Downtown,

As the coronavirus has thrust the world into this unprecedented time, taking a devastating toll on lives and communities, now more than ever it is imperative that we find sources of inspiration to fortify and nurture our whole selves. Social media accounts are filled with stories of neighbors united in song from across balconies, front porch orchestra concerts, and countless other acts of mutual generosity. It is artists who remind us that we are in this together, through acts that address our common humanity and our needs for community and interconnectedness.

We are reaching out to you, our creative community, to share that Art Works Downtown is facing a crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent Shelter in Place order. We have been required to cancel all public arts programming including Art Walks, Senior Art Workshops, the Membership Workshop, and close the building until future notice. Additionally, artists and our affordable housing tenants are profoundly being affected. Those within AWD’s affordable housing community traditionally work in lower paying and hourly jobs such as restaurants, retail, janitorial services, and the like and are forgoing pay during closures - placing enormous pressure on already challenging circumstances.

Please, DONATE today to help AWD through this difficult time. YOUR DONATION will help stabilize our future.

Our mission is to provide an environment where visual arts thrive for the well-being of our community. We cannot fulfil our mission without these much-needed funds. A gift from you WILL make an impact.

We recognize that this is an enormously distressing time but hope it will be a temporary situation. The AWD Board of Directors and staff are working to outline how Art Works Downtown will maintain solvency in the wake of this virus and will keep you apprised of developments.

In unity and health,

Elisabeth Setten
Executive Director
