Refunkified
Refunkified
recycled art by Martin Freeman
a collaboration with Visual Aid
March 3 - April 23, 2011
in the 1337 Gallery
Martin Freeman is an under-recognized California funk artist. Freeman's "babies" are playful sculptures made from recycled everyday objects. "Whatever has been used before, I break it down and re-use it," says Freeman. These endearing works can also be subversive and bawdy, exploring identity through themes relating to gender, race, and sexuality.
Refunkified is a collaboration with Visual Aid, a nonprofit organization that encourages artists with life-threatening illnesses to continue their creative work: www.visualaid.org
